Draw the Universe

How would you respond if I asked you to draw Beethoven’s Pathetique sonata for me? Well, you’d probably write it down in musical notation. “No, no, no,” I’d say. “Everyone keeps trying to explain it with notes.”
So you might draw a guy sitting at a piano. “That’s not it at all,” I’d say. “That’s someone performing the sonata. I want you to draw the sonata.”
So you might get really creative and create an abstract painting for me inspired by listening to the sonata on your iPod … which would just frustrate me further. I don’t want to see what you think about the sonata! I just want someone to draw the fucking sonata already.
At that point, you would call security and have me escorted from your office.
You want pictures of things which have no pictorial representation. You cannot draw a sonata. You cannot draw a black hole. You cannot draw spacetime. You cannot draw the universe.
